If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking for a way to generate some extra cash.

Lots of folks make hundreds - even thousands - of dollars each month completing paid surveys in their spare time. And some use it as their primary source of income.

But, here’s the problem . . . .

The good news is that, while you won’t make a million dollars in your spare time, you can make a nice supplemental income from the Legitimate paid survey sites.

Look, as simple as this may be, I want you to understand: I don't earn $150 per hour every hour of every day, and you won't either. I'm not going to tell you that you can make $50,000 a month, because most people who do this just don't make that kind of money.

But when you can make $150 per hour just some of the time, you don't need to work very much. Do you?

I use these programs to make my living, so I know what I'm talking about - simple and easy ways to make your living from the comfort of your own home. While I may do it full-time, that's not everyone's goal; some people do these programs just to make an extra $300 - $500 every month (enough to make a car or boat payment!).

Others, like me, choose to do this full-time as their primary income. For those of us who choose this route, it is a sweet way to live. I get up each morning, go to the gym for a workout, walk my two dogs a couple of miles and read the paper. After my workout, walk and breakfast, I go to work taking surveys. I enjoy taking these surveys. They’re fun and they pay well, so I've finally found something that pays me to do what I love doing.

First, here's what NOT to do:

Monthly Membership Sites
Some so-called membership survey sites charge recurring monthly fees every month to stay on as their member. Avoid these like the plague. This isn’t necessary. Typically very few new opportunities or updates are added each month.

Free to Join Sites
You’ll find that there are a whole lot of ‘free to join’ paid survey sites advertised on the ‘net. My experience is that most of them are simply scams that offer no real paid surveys. They just want to collect your email address so they can fill your email with spam (I know - I've deleted thousands of 'free survey' spam emails). If you find one of the few good ones go ahead and join it. You’ll most likely get 3 to 5 surveys a month paying $5 to $10 each. But hey, as they’re free to join, you really don’t have much risk.

Just be aware that they’re not a substitute for the professional membership sites. The sites listed below actually have dedicated staff to continuously source for and update new paid survey opportunities as they emerge on the web.

Before I close, I'd like to leave you with a few tips for success. These are some things I've learned from my time "in the trenches" as a paid online survey taker.

1. Create a unique email address for taking surveys. Your invitations to participate in surveys will be coming via email and it's best to keep them separate from your personal or other business email.

2. Sign up with as many Market Research Companies as you can. This is truly the worst part of the process, but make it a goal to sign up with at least 5 new companies each day for the first week or so. By then you'll be getting survey invitations and you can monitor whether you'd like to get more invitations or if you're already receiving enough.

3. Take the time to build a profile with each Market Research Company. When you register with a MRC, you'll be asked various questions which will make up your personal "profile". This gets tedious after awhile (you wish you could do it once and let that be good for all of them) but since each research company has its own focus and works independently from the other companies, it's another one of those necessary evils. As you fill out your profile, be honest - this is how they match you up with the particular surveys and focus groups that they're offering.

4. Set realistic goals for yourself. Remember, you'll not get rich quick (or at all) with online surveys, but you will make some extra money. If you only have one hour per week to devote to surveys that's fine. You'll get out of this what you put into it. When you're realistic about this, it takes the pressure off and allows you to have some fun with the surveys. After all, it's still pretty cool to get paid by answering a few questions on the computer, wouldn't you say?

5. Check your email frequently. The reason I say this is because my wife used to be one of those persons who checked her email every other day or so, with no regularity. When she first started doing surveys, she missed out on most of them because she didn't open the email invitation until the survey was closed.

You see, they usually send out more invitations than the number of respondents they need. If you try to take the survey once they've received their desired number of responses, you get a friendly screen saying that the survey is closed. And guess which surveys close fastest? You got it - the high paying ones. The more frequently you check your email, the better chance you have to take the "primo" surveys.
